USB Flash 4GB as portable memory storage device
A pen drive or USB Flash 4GB is basically a portable memory storage device whose data can be accessed by connecting it to a USB port of storage capacity of 4GB. The data stored in it is rewritable, meaning that the data can be modified as per the user's convenience. A USB Flash Drive usually weighs below thirty grams and may have a storage capacity of 256GB. The USB flash 4GB is the most commonly used one. The reason being: USB Flash 4GB is on the cheaper side within the reaches of the working crowd without compromising on the storage space. This flash drive serves the same purpose that floppy disks once did.
USB Flash drives are smaller, faster and have 1000 times more capacity for data storage as compared to the floppy drives. Not only that USB Flash 4GB is more rugged, durable and reliable because of the absence of any moving parts unlike their floppy counterparts. Some allow more than a million write and erase allowing it to have a retention cycle that can span over a decade. 2005 onwards, most of the desktop as well as the laptop computers were equipped with USB port as the data interface instead of the ancient floppy drive. This even extends to some gaming consoles.
It is compatible with most of the operating systems generally used. Even though nothing actually moves in the flash drive, the term 'drive' still persists because the same set of commands are used to read and write on data compact disc using a disk drive is used for accessing data on a flash drive. The data storage capacity is greater and the data transfer rate is faster than that of an optical disc drive with the advent of the USB 2.0 interface. Most of the drives don't require battery as they derive power directly from the USB connection.A pen drive or USB Flash 4GB is basically a portable memory storage device whose data can be accessed by connecting it to a USB port of storage capacity of 4GB.
